Dinner at the á la carte Restaurant Old Mill is one of the hallmarks of the Oude Meul. Productive until 1950, our mill is one of the only surviving mills in the region, as the Restaurant was carefully integrated with the mill still inside. A residence bar and dining room offers grilled ostrich fillet and traditional South African cuisine. Locals and travelers alike enjoy the delicious dishes and menus, all served with fresh garden vegetables. The best local wines are also available. The whole atmosphere is one of relaxation and enjoyment, while being surrounded by tamed game and a river crossing through. Be sure to bring enough time with you, as there is so much to in the nearest surrounding. You might already have planned to see the world-famous Cango Caves, the Cango Wildlife Ranch and Crocodile Farm or one of the renowned Ostrich Show Farms, but there is so much more to do and see in the area. The Swartberg pass and its breathtaking view all the way to the top, with some of the best examples of sandstone formations in the world, beautiful Meiringspoort with its numerous waterfalls and majestic cliffs, the serene waterfall and braai area at Rust en Vrede – all guarantee for clean mountain air and a breathtaking variety of indigenous fauna and flora. The adventurous can go on multi-activity trips or go hiking, kayaking, quad biking, caving, kloofing, abseiling, mountain biking or even microlighting and those, who need a break we recommend: Glide on our dam in a little row boat, enjoy drinks at our bar, take a dip in the pool, or enjoy the unspoilt nature and beautiful surroundings.
